A Few Thoughts On the Haiku
Before diving into this nice and informative haiku, a little something about cicadas. I was under a misimpression that cicadas call at night just like those bugger crickets. But apparently most of the cicadas are quiet at night and are actively raising hell in daytime. This I came to know right before I posted the Haiku Seed prompt on Twitter. I’ve written a few haiku over the years involving cicadas and some must surely be set at night and I feel like a fool. I’m lazy to research now if the many haiku about cicadas from the age old masters are all set in daytime.
Anyway, I tweeted the Haiku Seed along with this newly found information. The writer also learned this fact with me and I instantly liked their haiku as it quite beautifully informs that cicada songs are rationed for daytime. Look how blatantly (but playfully) the writer taunts us by calling the cicada calls, which I would term Satan-summoning incantations, songs.
